The Truth vs. Alex Jones

In 2012, twenty children and six adults were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. For years Alex Jones said on his site InfoWars that the event was staged, that the families were acting, and that the children never existed. Families were harassed, their addresses published, their cemeteries visited. In the end two separate defamation suits were brought and Jones went to court. Dan Reed's documentary was filmed over four years with direct access to the hearings. At the centre of the narrative is what the families said from the stand: not what they lost, but what they lived through for a decade after losing it. The film also uses long passages from Jones's own broadcasts and sets them against his testimony. The suits ended in damages on the scale of billions of dollars. Who it's for: Viewers of legal documentary, narratives about disinformation, and courtroom records. Who it's not for: The subject is an attack in which children were killed and the families' accounts are very heavy. Some passages are extremely hard to watch.
