What The Wackness Is About
A school leaver dealing weed in New York in 1994 pays his therapist in product. Over the summer a relationship starts with the therapist's stepdaughter. The film runs the teenage story alongside the therapist's own crisis; the narrative shows the two living the same emptiness at different ages. The music of the period is its main rhythm. Jonathan Levine wrote and directed, with Josh Peck and Ben Kingsley. It won the audience award at Sundance. A real warning: there is heavy drug use and relationships involving a minor. The therapist crossing professional boundaries is also shown without criticism.
