The Way We Talk

Adam Wong's 2025 Hong Kong film follows three deaf young people. Wolf grew up in a deaf family and took to sign language; Sophie received a cochlear implant young and works to erase the difference in her speech. The film sets those two positions against each other. Alan stands between them; the narrative does not say which is right and shows where the pressure to be counted normal comes from. Some of the cast are deaf. Sign language takes wide space in the film. The tone is lively and humorous. Who it's for: viewers of Hong Kong cinema and films about deaf culture. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a simple disability narrative; the film puts the argument inside the community first.
