What The Wedding Is About
Tanya comes back to her small mining town after a spell in Moscow where she was supposedly working as a model, and decides to marry Mishka, the shy boy she liked at school, who now works down the mine. The miners finally get paid, and Mishka still ends up with no money for a present for his bride, so he asks his permanently drunk friend Garkusha for help. His family put on a proper wedding with a great deal of vodka, while suspecting what Tanya was doing in Moscow and what her connection is to Borodin, her ex from the mafia. Pavel Lungin's film was in competition at Cannes in 2000 and came back with an acting prize.
