What The White Moor Is About
The film is adapted from a folk tale. The tale is Harap Alb. It was written down by Ion Creangă. At the centre is the youngest son of a nobleman. His father is a hard tempered man. The son is not much use at anything. What he has in mind is becoming the hero of the tale. That hero is called Harap Alb. He decides to retrace the hero’s road. A great deal happens to him along it. He meets a figure called Spân, who takes him in, and having gone against his parents he ends up a servant. The telling rebuilds the tale as a comedy. Florin Piersic and Emil Botta appear in the ninety one minute film, a Romanian production Ion Popescu-Gopo finished in 1965.
