The White Stadium

The documentary covers the Winter Olympics held at St. Moritz in Switzerland in 1928. The races, the ski runs and the performances on ice were shot with the means of the time and with an eye trained on mountain films. The Norwegian skater Sonja Henie won gold at those games at fifteen and appears in one of the film’s best remembered passages. It is the first feature length official film made for the Winter Games, and it also shows how fast camera work and editing were moving in those years. The hundred and twenty four minute documentary by Arnold Fanck and Othmar Gurtner was completed in 1928.
