The Young Offenders

Conor and Jock are two boys in Cork who dress the same, behave the same and steal bicycles constantly. Hearing that a boat has gone down off the coast and bales of cocaine are floating in the sea, they set off on stolen bikes with a plan to find one and get rich. Peter Foott drew it from the real 2007 incident off Mizen Head, the largest drug seizure in Irish history. He does not turn it into a hard crime story but into a stupid and affectionate road comedy. The rapport between Alex Murphy and Chris Walley is the strength of it. It became an unexpected box office success in Ireland and later grew into a television series. Who it is for: viewers who like Irish comedy and low-budget road films. Who it is not for: anyone put off by crude humour and constant swearing.
