What They Called Him Spencer Is About
Two devoted Bud Spencer fans, Marcus Zölch and Jorgo Papasoglou, set off across Europe to find their idol. Along the way they talk with the people who worked alongside Carlo Pedersoli, which was Bud Spencer’s real name, among them his screen partner Terence Hill. The film is both a road movie and a documentary, and it tries to say what else the man behind that legendary punch actually did. Karl-Martin Pold directed it, growing it out of his own 2009 graduation project and carrying it forward with crowdfunding and the participation of fans. It had its world premiere at the Munich film festival on 23 June 2017 with the Pedersoli family present, and opened in cinemas on 27 July 2017.
