What This Is Congo Is About
The documentary tells the latest cycle of conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the M23 rebellion, through the lives of three people. One is an army officer carrying twelve bullet wounds, one is a woman who has lived for ten years on the illegal mineral trade, and one is an elderly tailor who picks up his sewing machine and moves to a new camp with every war. The camera goes both to the front and into the camps. The account gives the conflict not as news seen from a distance but as the daily arithmetic of people who have to live there.
