What This Side of the Law Is About
A man trapped inside a cistern goes back over the events that brought him there. In a story told through flashbacks, his path once crossed that of a lawyer running crooked business, and the lawyer proposed that he take the place of a wealthy man who had disappeared seven years earlier. As the game around inheritance, family and identity goes on, it turns out that everybody has an account of their own. Running in the noir vein of the forties, the story starts from a closed space and opens backwards, keeping until the end whether there is a way out. Viveca Lindfors and Kent Smith appear in Richard L. Bare’s seventy four minute American film, completed in 1950.
