Three Sisters with Maiden Hearts

Three sisters play music in the street. The instrument they play is the shamisen. They go round the bars and earn their money in tips. What they earn goes to their mother. The woman is hard and domineering. She has made a business out of this work. The three sisters are not alike in character. The eldest wants out of this life. She tries to set up an ordinary household with the man she loves. The middle one keeps working in her mother’s trade. The youngest dances in a nightclub. As their roads separate, one of them drifts near a criminal world. The film is adapted from a story by Yasunari Kawabata. Chikako Hosokawa and Masako Tsutsumi appear in the seventy five minute film, a Japanese production Mikio Naruse finished in 1935.
