Three Stories of Love

The film tells three separate lives side by side: a man in collapse after losing his wife, a housewife bored with her life, and a gay lawyer. Their paths touch one another, but none of them solves another’s trouble. The account takes love that has been lost as its common subject and leaves each story at its own tempo. The film promises no consolation and builds no dramatic peak. Through its hundred and forty minutes it is everyday detail, workplaces and journeys that come forward. The loneliness of the three does not look alike, and that distinction is kept. The performances are held plain and large gestures are avoided. Atsushi Shinohara appears in Ryosuke Hashiguchi’s hundred and forty minute Japanese film, completed in 2015.
