What Through Night and Day Is About
Veronica Velasco's 2018 Filipino film follows a couple travelling to Iceland, a trip Jen had long wanted. Along the way the real state of the relationship comes out. The film does not use the landscape as romantic ground; the narrative shows how little the two know each other and lets the arguments run. Alessandra de Rossi and Paolo Contis lead. The images were taken in Iceland. The tone sits between comedy and drama, and the close does not arrive where expected. Who it's for: those who like Filipino relationship films and road narratives. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a romantic escape; the film does the opposite.
