A train crosses Italy toward Rome. The film divides the journey into three parts. In the first, an elderly professor daydreams a love that never happened with the young woman who helped him. In the second, a difficult widow is travelling to a memorial for her late husband, accompanied by a young man doing community service. In the third, three Scottish football fans on their way to a match share a carriage with an Albanian refugee family who have lost a ticket. All three parts ask the same thing: how do you behave toward a stranger? Three directors made it: Ermanno Olmi, Abbas Kiarostami and Ken Loach, one part each. A hundred and nine minutes. The parts were shot separately, but the train, the passengers and the refugee family tie them together.
