Time to Die

Aniela, past ninety, lives alone in a huge and fast rotting wooden house filled with the keepsakes of finished eras. Dorota Kędzierzawska follows her days in black and white and with almost nothing happening. Two threats circle her: a sour neighbour who has designs on the property and would like to pull it down, and her married son, kindly enough but read by Aniela as someone working his way toward the deed. She spends most of the day talking to her dog, Fila, and watching the neighbours through the window when boredom sets in. Danuta Szaflarska carries the whole weight of it, and old age here is not a condition to be pitied but an argument still being had.
