Tomorrow Will Be Better

Three Russian boys live in a railway station. They have no one, and they get through each day on their wits. One day they decide to leave the station behind. They set out for the countryside. The plan is to cross the border into Poland. They believe a better life is waiting there. The road is long and they carry almost nothing. Kind people do turn up along the way. When tenderness is offered, they move towards it at first. Then they push the same tenderness away. They sense that softening would leave them defenceless. That back and forth sets the rhythm of the film. The camera looks from the height of the children. Their world is not explained in adult language. The film neither begs for pity nor turns the journey into a fairy tale. The border stays in their heads as a piece of hope. Oleg Ryba and Yevgeniy Ryba appear in the hundred and eighteen minute film, a Polish production Dorota Kędzierzawska finished in 2011.
