Tom & Thomas

A boy growing up in an orphanage says he has seen someone in the city who looks exactly like him. Nobody believes him. Then he really does meet Thomas: the twin he was separated from at birth. The two decide to change places and step into each other's lives. But there is more between them than a swap; when one is in danger the other feels it. Directed by Esmé Lammers, the film is a family picture that nonetheless goes to genuinely dark places. The orphanage, separation and the neglect of adults are all in the telling. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays both parts; it is one of the actor's first works. Sean Bean is in the cast. The telling does not lie to a child: bad things happen and not everything is put right easily.
