Tomorrow Is My Turn

In 1940, after the French defeat, two soldiers are taken prisoner and sent under forced labour to a farm in Germany. Roger is a pastry cook, accepts what has happened quietly and builds a life where he has landed. Jean is a journalist and thinks about escaping and fighting. Both get through the war. When peace comes, which of them was right turns out nothing like what was expected. André Cayatte's film won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 1960. Charles Aznavour plays Roger and Georges Rivière plays Jean. Cayatte's known method is at work here too: he sets two lives side by side and forces the viewer to decide. The film does not present resistance as the only right account; it says that submitting has a story of its own as well.
