Too Young To Die!

The high school student Daisuke dies in a bus crash on a school trip and falls straight into hell. There he meets a demon called Killer K, the guitarist of hell's rock band and rather good on stage. Daisuke wants one thing: to go back to the world and reach the girl he likes. The only way is to join the band and earn a reincarnation. Kankuro Kudo wrote and directed the film, and it belongs to the loud, exaggerated wing of Japanese comedy: hell here is a concert hall and the tortures are staged like a show. Tomoya Nagase plays Killer K and really does play guitar. The telling puts teenage love and the fear of death inside the same joke. Two hours feels long in places, but the musical passages hold the film up.
