What Totò Double or Nothing? Is About
A duke left without money decides to go on the big television quiz show in order to help his daughter. When two gangsters start betting between themselves on whether he will win, he gets kidnapped and the whole thing comes apart. There is a real phenomenon behind it: that quiz was Italy's first great television craze in those years, and the streets emptied while it was on. The show's actual host plays himself in the film. So this is a comedy made immediately on top of a live mass event. Toto, as ever, does his own routine inside the format.
