What Train Birds Is About
Peter Lichtefeld's 1998 German-Finnish film follows Hannes, who drives a beer lorry in Dortmund. Hannes is devoted to railway timetables and his one ambition is the international timetable contest held at Inari in the far north of Finland. When his boss refuses him the time off there is a scuffle between them, and Hannes gets on a train and goes. Without knowing it he has left a suspicion of murder behind him, and a German inspector follows him all the way to Lapland while Hannes meets Sirpa, a Finn devoted to roses. A calm, odd road comedy that never raises its voice. Joachim Król leads, opposite Outi Mäenpää.
