What That's Life Is About
Three men: a counterfeiter in prison, a police officer who wants to be a writer, and a designer of children's toys. Their paths cross through a run of mishaps. After a hijacking and a car chase the vehicle goes off a cliff. Then they realise they died in the crash. A woman named Clara, an angelic figure, appears and helps them before their final journey. The trio Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo directed with Massimo Venier and also star. Marina Massironi plays Clara. Giovanni Fiore Coltellacci photographed it and the band Negrita wrote the music. It opened in December 1998, in the last month of the year, and still took more than 30 million dollars in Italy to become the fourth highest-grossing film there that year. Negrita were nominated for Best Original Song at the 1999 Nastro d'Argento awards. Who it is for: viewers who like Italian popular comedy and light fantasy built on the afterlife. Who it is not for: anyone unfamiliar with the trio's register. Most of the comedy rests on the established characters of Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo and on Italian dialect.
