All Hands on Deck!

Félix meets a girl one summer night in Paris. A few days later she leaves for the south on holiday with her family. He decides to follow. With his friend Chérif he finds a shared car ride. Édouard, who is driving, is quiet, meticulous and organised; the three go south together. When they arrive things do not go as expected; the girl understood the situation differently and her family is there. The three settle at a campsite and the holiday goes on. Guillaume Brac directs. Éric Nantchouang, Salif Cissé and Édouard Sulpice are in the cast. It is a French production. The film came out of a workshop at a film school; most of the actors are not professionals and the screenplay developed during shooting. The form is light and observational; the plot is kept thin and the film looks at everyday detail. The matter underneath is class and place; the difference between young men from the Paris suburbs and the people in a holiday region is inside the narrative. The campsite scenes are its best parts; there the narrative shows the life of a community. Brac had made films set in summer and on holiday before and this belongs to that line. The narrative does not meet the romantic expectation and the film does not see that as a problem. Who it is for: viewers who like French summer films and observational narrative. Who it is not for: little happens, the structure is loose, and the ending inconclusive.
