What Trek Nation Is About
The documentary tells the story of Star Trek and of its creator Gene Roddenberry through the eyes of his son, Rod Roddenberry. Rod talks to cast and crew from all five Star Trek series, to fans, and to people who say the show shaped them, George Lucas among them. In their conversation at Skywalker Ranch, Lucas describes going to Star Trek conventions before he made Star Wars. What interests Scott Colthorp's 2011 film lies somewhere other than the show itself: what a piece of television turns into inside people's lives, and what it is like for a son to learn about his father from what other people say about him.
