What Omer The Tourist Among the Cannibals Is About
The African instalment of Sadri Alışık's long running Turist Ömer series. Ömer takes whatever work he can find; envying the tattoo on a friend's arm, he sets off to get one himself, and on the way a dying man hands him a drawing and asks him to have exactly that put on his arm. The drawing is a treasure map. The chief of the tribe searching for that treasure happens to be in Istanbul, and he and his men seize Ömer and carry him off to Africa. The film keeps putting Ömer in front of power as a bewildered but cunning small man, and that is where the comedy comes from. Its Africa is entirely a studio construction built on the clichés of its period, which is obvious from here.
