What Turn the Key Softly Is About
Three women come out of prison on the same day: a bitter burglar, a woman working the street, and an elderly shoplifter. The film covers their first day outside. Each of them has someone waiting, somewhere to go and a life they hope to put together, but as the day goes on it turns out that the outside is not much easier than the inside was. The account shows the women neither as criminals nor as victims; it leaves each of them her own reason and her own decision. It was adapted from a novel. Yvonne Mitchell and Joan Collins appear in Jack Lee’s eighty one minute British film, completed in 1953.
