What Tzadik Is About
In 1942 an order is given to Nikolai Kiselyov, an officer of the Red Army: to bring more than two hundred Jewish women, children and elderly men who face death in Nazi occupied Belarus across the front line. These people are starving, exhausted and shaken by what they have seen; they must cross hundreds of kilometres of forest paths on foot. Through the journey the real question is not only surviving but whether anything is left of a future. The film rests on a rescue that actually took place. Aleksandr Yatsenko appears in Sergei Ursuliak’s hundred and sixty three minute Russian film, completed in 2023.
