What Under the Wire Is About
Chris Martin’s 2018 documentary is about two journalists who crossed into Syria on 12 February 2012: Marie Colvin, war correspondent of the Sunday Times, and the photographer Paul Conroy. Their purpose was to report on the civilians trapped in Homs under siege and continuous shelling by the Syrian army, and they went in on the back of a motorbike. Colvin was killed on 22 February by Syrian artillery fire in Baba Amr, along with the French photographer Rémi Ochlik; Conroy and Edith Bouvier were wounded. The film comes from Conroy’s own book and tells the story largely through the shaking phone footage shot at the time.
