Union

Brett Story and Stephen Maing's 2024 documentary follows a unionisation campaign at a warehouse in New York. The workers set out to organise against one of the largest companies in the world, beginning without outside support. The interest is the everyday work of organising. Collecting signatures at a bus stop, handing out food and finding somewhere to meet sit at the centre; the narrative does not build this as a story of victory. The disagreements within the group also enter the record. Who will speak, how money will be raised and who is taking how much risk are argued over, and the documentary does not cut them. The filming was spread over a long period. Who it's for: those who follow the labour movement and observational documentary. Who it's not for: viewers expecting neutral reporting; the film stands openly with the workers.
