What Vanishing of the Bees Is About
The documentary takes up the sudden abandonment of hives by honeybees, the phenomenon called Colony Collapse Disorder, and asks about it not only as a question in nature but as a question about how agriculture is built: monoculture, hives trucked from crop to crop, spraying schedules. It reaches no firm scientific conclusion. It proposes a link with neonicotinoid pesticides and presents that as a proposition. George Langworthy and Maryam Henein directed it, and Elliot Page narrates. The 2009 film moves by talking to beekeepers and closes by listing things a viewer can do where they live.
