What Viduthalai: Part II Is About
Viduthalai: Part II is the second half of director Vetrimaaran's two part film, opening in Tamil Nadu on December 20, 2024. Vijay Sethupathi's character Perumal Vaathiyaar is based on a real person: Tamil teacher Pulavar Kaliyaperumal, born in 1924, who moved from Periyar's Self-Respect Movement to Communism and eventually to the Naxalite movement. The film's opening train crash sequence is inspired by a real 1987 bombing attack by the Tamil Nadu Liberation Army in Tamil Nadu's Ariyalur district. The film grossed 442 million rupees in 14 days, nearly doubling the opening of the first film. Who it's for: anyone curious about the second half of a two part film grounded in a real Naxalite figure and a real train attack. Who it's not for: viewers looking for a standalone story without having seen the first film, since this is a direct continuation.
