Walk Softly, Stranger

Chris Hale has a record, and he arrives in a small town in Ohio. His plan is to stay out of sight for a while. But in the town he meets Elaine, the daughter of a wealthy family, injured in a skiing accident and using a wheelchair. As something forms between them, Chris thinks for the first time about really changing. Robert Stevenson's RKO picture brought Joseph Cotten and Alida Valli back together after The Third Man. The film sat on the shelf for a while after it was shot and only reached cinemas in 1950. The telling joins the crime picture to melodrama. Elaine's disability is not used to draw pity; she stands as someone who makes her own decisions.
