What War Made Easy Is About
Adapted from Norman Solomon's book of the same name, the documentary argues that the language American administrations use on the way into a war has repeated itself for fifty years, from Vietnam to Iraq: the same justifications, the same images, the same insistence on urgency. Its real target is less the government than the press, and it makes the case by laying archive clips of news coverage side by side. Loretta Alper and Jeremy Earp directed it, Sean Penn narrates, and the Media Education Foundation produced it. The film does not hide that it is arguing an anti war case. It builds its evidence from selected archive and gives the other side no room, so the thesis and the method are worth weighing separately.
