What Warning Shot Is About
A policeman in Los Angeles shoots a man he takes for a suspect during a night patrol. The dead man turns out to be a well-known doctor, and no weapon is found at the scene. The press comes down on him immediately, the department moves to protect itself, and the officer is suspended. Without his badge, he goes after the case alone. Buzz Kulik's film is one of the few made in the sixties about police shootings and public pressure. It gives no easy answer: whether the man was right is held open to the end, and the versions that suit the department and the press are each laid out separately. David Janssen takes the lead, with a crowded supporting cast running from Lillian Gish to Keenan Wynn.
