What We Are Twisted Fucking Sister! Is About
Twisted Sister became a worldwide name overnight in 1984. For thirty years afterwards they were remembered for hairspray, women's clothes and tasteless album covers. This documentary is about the decade before that year: the bar circuit of New Jersey and New York, gigs six nights a week, doors that stayed shut, rejections from the labels, and a band that broke up and re-formed over and over. The real story is what came before the success. Andrew Horn built the film on the archive of the band's founder, Jay Jay French. Dee Snider, Eddie Ojeda, Mark Mendoza and A. J. Pero all speak. It runs over two hours, and it is a record less of a rock band than of ten years of stubbornness.
