What We Jam Econo: The Story of the Minutemen Is About
The documentary tells the story of the early 1980s punk band the Minutemen, from their beginnings in San Pedro, California, to the end that came with the death of the singer D. Boon in 1985. The thrift the film takes its title from is at its centre: the short songs, the cheap tours and the principle of doing everything yourself, with the punk scene described as a way of working by the band members and the people around them. In Tim Irwin’s ninety one minute American production, archive concert footage runs alongside the interviews, and among those speaking are Jello Biafra, Milo Aukerman, Grant Hart and Flea. The film was completed in 2005.
