What Weekend with My Mother Is About
Fifteen years ago Luiza went to Spain to start again, leaving her three year old daughter Cristina with relatives. Coming back to Romania, she learns what was kept from her: Cristina ran away from home, uses drugs and has a two year old daughter living in an orphanage. Weighed down by guilt, Luiza tries to save her daughter, but the distance the years have opened does not close over a weekend. The film neither clears the mother nor the daughter; it shows where each of them is right, and it promises no easy reconciliation. Medeea Marinescu and Adela Popescu appear in Stere Gulea’s ninety seven minute Romanian film, completed in 2009.
