What We're All Christs Is About
Adam Miauczyński is an alcoholic. The film tells the story of his drinking from two sides at once: what his son Sylwuś remembers, and what he remembers himself. As the two accounts overlap a list emerges, an inventory of everything the drinking cost him and the people around him. Marek Koterski writes and directs. Two actors share the part of Adam: Marek Kondrat and Andrzej Chyra. This is the seventh in the nine film series Koterski built around the character Adaś Miauczyński. The character has a different age and a different job in each film and is always the same person. The method is not an order of scenes but an order of remembering. The narrative is not chronological; the same event returns several times in different recollections and which is true is never stated. The tone moves constantly between comedy and drama. Some scenes are directly funny and the one immediately after shows what that event produced. It was shot in the summer of 2005 in Warsaw and its surroundings and in Wrocław. It won the award for direction at the Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia in 2006, along with the Polish Filmmakers Association's award for the depiction of contemporary life. Who it is for: viewers who follow Polish cinema and films that tell addiction from inside. Who it is not for: the subject is heavy, the narrative repeats, and in places the humour sharpens the pain rather than easing it.
