What We Started

The documentary tells the road of electronic dance music through two names. One is Carl Cox: playing since the eighties, he has seen every stage of it from warehouse parties to festivals. The other is Martin Garrix, who in his early twenties became one of the highest-earning DJs in the world. Their two worlds come out of the same music and are nothing like each other. Moby, David Guetta, Paul Oakenfold, Tiësto, Usher and Ed Sheeran speak in Bert Marcus's seventy-minute documentary. The film puts the argument between the old generation and the new one out in the open: one side says the music has been commercialised, the other defends reaching a large audience. The documentary takes no side and leaves the argument as it is.
