Luciano Vidigal's 2025 Brazilian film follows three young Black men in a favela in Rio. De's grandmother has reached the final stage of Alzheimer's; the three decide to spend her remaining days together with her. The film does not use the illness as dramatic material. The young men's daily life, their jokes and their movement through the neighbourhood fill most of the narrative; the grandmother is somewhere inside it and death keeps approaching. Vidigal comes from the neighbourhood itself and the cast is largely local. The cinematography does not use the place as a marker of poverty; the colour and music are kept alive. The tone is balanced between sadness and joy. Who it's for: those who like contemporary Brazilian cinema and coming-of-age narratives. Who it's not for: viewers with someone close to them living with dementia; the film shows the details of care and forgetting directly.
