Who Is Dayani Cristal?

A body is found in the Arizona desert. There are no papers on it. There is one mark to go on. A tattoo runs across the chest. The words on it read Dayani Cristal. The body is taken to the Pima County morgue. Forensic anthropologists work there. Their job is to find out who the man was. The film follows that work step by step. A second line opens at the same time. Gael García Bernal walks the same route north, the migrant road up through Central America, travelling alongside other people making the crossing. The film starts from one person, and behind him stand thousands. Six thousand migrant bodies were found on United States soil in the previous decade. The eighty minute film took a cinematography award at Sundance in 2013, a Mexican and British production Marc Silver finished that year.
