Why We Ride

A documentary about motorcycles that is not a technical film. Bryan H. Carroll asks why people ride and gathers the answer from three directions: professional racers, riders who have given their lives to it, and ordinary families who go out on weekends. Known names like Kenny Roberts and Mert Lawwill speak, and so do people nobody has heard of. The film is not trying to convince anyone; it is trying to describe an attachment. That is also why it opens no arguments and says almost nothing about risk or crashes. The images are wide and carefully made, the tone is nostalgic throughout. For anyone curious about how an object turns into an identity it works, even without any interest in the subject.
