Wilderness: Part 2

It is set in the near future, around Shinjuku in Tokyo. Shinji, who has come out of a youth detention centre, and Barikan, who stammers and is extremely shy, meet at a boxing gym and become friends. Both are in a hopeless position; boxing is not a career to them but the one thing to hold on to. Training, debts and the people around them both strengthen and wear down the bond between the two. The film builds the fight in the ring as the counterpart of life outside and does not present winning as a solution. It is the second part of an account filmed in two parts. It was adapted from a novel. Masaki Suda plays the lead in Yoshiyuki Kishi’s hundred and forty seven minute Japanese film, completed in 2017.
