What World Without Sun Is About
The documentary follows the attempt by a team of six to live for thirty days on a base set on the sea floor in the Red Sea. The men have air, water, food and electricity; they use a small two man submarine to go exploring, and they try to build an everyday order in a world where day and night are not distinguished. Jacques-Yves Cousteau’s ninety three minute French production records that experiment both as scientific work and as a way of living, with the underwater images shot on cameras held by the divers themselves. It was named best documentary at the 37th Academy Awards, Cousteau’s second Oscar after The Silent World in 1956.
