Yevdokiya

Yevdokim and Yevdokiya, who live on the edge of a provincial town, are raising the children they have taken in; he works at a factory and she keeps the house. Seen from outside the order holds, but she cannot forget the love of her youth. He cannot bear it and offers her her freedom, saying he will stay with the children. In the end all those contradictions dissolve inside the love they feel for the children and for each other. The film describes a family not through ties of blood but through time spent together and responsibility taken on. The account does not present the woman’s past as a fault; it shows what each of them is carrying. Lyudmila Khityaeva plays the lead in Tatyana Lioznova’s hundred and one minute Soviet film, completed in 1961.
