You & Me & Me

Wanweaw Hongvivatana's 2023 Thai film is about identical twin sisters. You and Mi share everything: the same room, the same friends, the same class and lives alike enough that they can stand in for each other. A boy they meet in their high school years breaks that arrangement; both like the same person and for the first time they have to keep something from each other. The film does not centre the triangle; its real subject is what it means to exist on one's own and why that is harder for a twin. The story is set at the end of the nineties and its period detail is carefully built. The ending is sadder than expected. Thitiya Jirapornsilp plays both roles. Who it's for: viewers who like youth drama and Thai cinema. Who it's not for: anyone expecting a light romantic comedy; the film grows heavy in its second half.
