Young Plato

Kevin McArevey is a head teacher. The school is in north Belfast. The district is called Ardoyne. It is a Catholic primary school. The pupils are between four and eleven. The district lived inside the conflict for many years. Poverty and drugs wore the neighbourhood down as well. McArevey teaches philosophy in class. He teaches the boys to listen to each other. He teaches respect for a different opinion. The questions reach as far as the stories told about war. The boys begin to question what they grew up hearing. Ways of settling a quarrel by talking are looked for. The head teacher is fond of Elvis. The documentary also shows a community putting itself back together. The hundred and two minute film is a Belgian, French and Irish production, directed by Declan McGrath and Neasa Ní Chianáin and finished in 2022.
