Young Royals Forever

The production shows what lay behind a series. Running three seasons, it told the school years of a prince and a relationship. This special begins at the auditions: the actors watch the recordings of their first time on camera, then come the rehearsals, the costume fittings and the days on set. The team finishes shooting the last season and the closing scene is filmed. Jens von Reis directs. It dates from 2024 and is Swedish. What the documentary is interested in is a production ending; the narrative gives that not as a celebration but as a parting. The series found a wide audience in Sweden and abroad; its leads became known quickly and the documentary takes up the personal effect of that. Its most concrete section is the audition footage; the actors as they first were and as they are in the last season are set side by side. The work on set is shown in detail: the staging, the number of takes and the shooting schedule. The audience response is a separate strand; what the series meant for a particular community is spoken about directly. Its limit is distance; the production was made by the company behind the series and there is no critical view. Who it is for: people who watched the series and viewers who like behind the scenes material. Who it is not for: there is nothing for anyone who does not know the series, and the register is promotional.
