Zabriskie Point

After a policeman is shot during a student action in Los Angeles, a young man flees the city. He steals a small aircraft, lands in the desert and meets a woman there. The film abandons plot almost entirely. Its attention goes to two long sequences: a mass love scene in the desert and, at the end, a house exploding over and over in slow motion. Neither is narrative but posture; the film turns a rage at American consumer order straight into image. It is the only film Michelangelo Antonioni made in America. It failed badly with both critics and audiences on release and was reconsidered years later. Pink Floyd and the Grateful Dead are on the soundtrack. Before watching: the film tells no story and neither of its leads was a professional actor. If you would count those as faults, stay away.
