Richard Linklater
22 films
Me and Orson Welles is, on Nick Bradshaw's reading, Richard Linklater's third trip into a historical period, the earlier two being Dazed and Confused and The Newton Boys. Bradshaw also takes it for his most playful, nearly celebratory telling of youthful experience, though in that respect it stands as a hand-me-down copy of Dazed and Confused. The idealism a secondary character voices he names distinctly Linklaterian, so that the director's name turns into an adjective there. The Silver Bear for directing came to him in 1995 for Before Sunrise and in 2014 for Boyhood, with the festival's Berlinale Camera going to him in between, in 2013. The French academy gave him its directing category in 2026, and the film that brought it was Nouvelle Vague, from 2025.
